버틀란트 러셀의 행복의 정복

 

 

러셀

읽고 있는중이지만 행복을 정복하기가 여간 어렵지않다.

정복하기전에 어려운 영어로 지쳐버리겠다.

그러나 100 page 쯤 읽으니 마음에 와닿는 구절이 있어 기억을 위해

기록해둔다.

이 러셀영감님의 말씀이 옳은 말씀같다.

 

Fad and hobbies, however,are in many cases, perhaps most, not a source of fundermantal

happiness, but a means of escape from reality, of forgetting for the moment some pain

too difficult to be faced.

 

Fudermental happiness depends more than anything else upon what may be called

a friendly interest in persons and things.

 

The secret of happiness is that: let your interest be as wide as possible , and

let your reactions to the things and persons that interest you be as far as possible

friendly rather than hostile.

 

이말씀인데 아주 공감가는 말씀인걸로 생각한다.

 

2012.10.13일 작성

어제 그러니까 2012.10.13 health club에서 완독했다.

호주시드니 딸네집에서 읽으려고 가져갔다가 못읽고 귀국해서 8월20일부터

다시 읽기시작해서 10월13일 완독했으니 한달반이 소요된것같다.

 

영어가 쉽지않다. 단어가 어렵고 문맥도 만만치 않아 읽는데 많은 시간이소요되었다.

러쎌형님 한마디로 박식하다. 그리고 그의 전공이 뭔지 모르겠다.

심리학자인지 역사학자인지?

어째던 대단한사람이다. 허나 행복의정복을 위해 읽기시작한 이책 완독하기까지

행복커녕 괴로웠다. 어려운 영어로 읽다보니 쉽지않은 영어에 혼났다.

 

그러나 나는 이런과정에 단련이 많이되어 괴롭고 짜증나지만 쉽게 극복한다.

그리고 어떤 면에서 그걸즐기면서 생활한다.

글중 이부분이 마음에 와닿아 기록해둔다.

 

The man who receives affection is the man who gives it.

But it is useless to attempt to give it as a calculation, in the way in which one might lend money at interest, for a calculated affection is not genuine and is not felt to be so by the recipient.
